Product Ratings Selection
Selecting an appropriate Galvanic Isolator and installing it is a simple process. The device is installed in series in the safety grounding conductor on the boat, usually near the main shore power panel. See the schematic for more detail.
Typical Product Selection
DEI Isolators are typically applied using an industry standard method of matching the device to the steady-state current rating of the shore power service. DEI Isolators rated 200A are intended for use on a single 200A service or dual 100A services. For dual 100A services the grounding conductor of both shore power cords can be run through one galvanic isolator. The model choice for a 200A GI is limited to the GI-200A-FSM only.
The FSM model is rated at 5,000A for 198 consecutive cycles, which is equivalent to the failure level of a #2 AWG copper conductor. At the above rating, this model remains fully functional and meets all other requirements of A-28. By comparison, ABYC A-28 only requires 5,000A for 1 cycle to meet the short-circuit test criteria.
